Frustrating Practices
Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009The past few practice sessions I have done have literally been the most frustrating practices of my entire life. All the sudden I have had a million ideas all at once. This is amazing except that the more ideas, and the more complex the ideas, the longer everything takes to learn. So today for example, I spend 45 minutes learning one pattern. 45 for 1. It was so frustrating. I keep putting my head that it doesn’t do me any good to play things I already know how to play, but it’s a lot better for the self-esteem than working on all of the stuff that you can’t do.
I guess in the coming months I am going to have to find a balance between working on lots of new things, and spending some time having fun behind my drums. I opened up the door on Soul and R&B playing, and it’s just grown into this huge chasm that keeps getting bigger and bigger. I guess that’s life, there is always something new to learn, always someone doing something that I can’t do, the goal continues to be to turn weaknesses into strength. Wish me luck :)
